Shneor Zalman Bernstien, a chabba shaliach and his wife who have been living in Kutchi, India for two years are forced to leave the country within a week’s days time.
As known, the paper ‘time of India’ revealed that the secret services in the country have received a warning about secret activities taking place by Israeli agents in response to the terror attack on November 26th that killed six people.
The couple, who is serving as chabbad shluchim, is suspicious of being Israeli spies. The Indian authorities have been tracking their money activity and the couple’s schedules, and claim that the couple would often have meetings in their home during the late night hours.
As soon as the first eviction notice was received, the couple hired a lawyer who claimed the couple did not have a hearing and did not have a chance to explain. The eviction was pushed off for another month.
Last Friday the couples’ lawyer filed an appeal; yet the judge informed them that the eviction is final and they need to leave the country within a week.
In a conversation Rabbi Bernstein had with a ‘B’chadrei Chareidim’ reporter he said that to him the decision seems very puzzling. The same authorized personnel who signed the eviction notice accepted us for a hearing where we brought all the evidence on our pure activity. Right after seeing it he told the media that we could stay. But in practice people with interest got involved and made him postpone the approval.
“The community was very sad to hear about this, especially after they put in so much effort so will be able to stay, and also for the reason that they need Jewish leadership here.
“I hope it is all about a financial issue and not an anti-Semitic issue, which is not known here so much. We accept it with peace of mind with Bitachon, and Emunah. It is the month of Adar, a month that we must be happy. We hope for a Naafoch Hu and that we’ll receive good news soon”.
