The Nadvorna Rebbe
A mournful day in the Chassidish world: The Nadvorner Rebbe, Harav Yackov Yissachar Ber Rosenbaum zt’l, passed away in the Beilinson hospital in Petach Tikvah.
Since the Rebbe was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago, he has become very weak and his condition has worsened by the day.
The Rebbes’ many Chassidim would often gather to say tehillem for his refuah, though his health condition was becoming more and more grim. Lately he suffered from pneumonia which had a lot of effect on his condition.
At the beginning of the week he was hospitalized, and this morning (Thursday) he was sadly niftar at the age of 82.
Four of the Rebbes’ sons, who traveled to the kever of the Ba’al Shem of Michalshtat, received a message late at night that their fathers’ condition has taken a sharp turn for the worse, and are now on their way back to Israel.
TheRebbe was born on the 23rd of Nissan 5690 (1930), in the town of Sirt, Romania, to his father Harav Chaim Mordechai Rosenbaum of Nadvorna zt”l, author of the D’var Chaim, who is buried on Har HaZeisim, and to his mother Rebbetzin Sima Raizel a”h, the daughter of harav Eliezer Ze’ev of Krechnif zt”l.
After the holocaust he came to Eretz Yisroel with his father, and lived Yafo.
Already in his youth he was known for his hasmada and greatness.
After his fathers’ petirah in 1972, he filled his place as the Nadvorna Rebbe. During his years of leadership the chassidus has grown immensely. Many yeshivas were opened and he attracted crowds of followers that drank in his every word. Swarms of people would come to ask his advice and receive Brachos from him when the doors were open to the public.
Harav Yissachar, who was considered one of the older admorim in our generation, was the source of consultation for all the other admorim, who saw him as an example of a leader. For hours upon hours the Rebbe would sit in his room listening to people’s tzaros and davening for their hatzlacha and yeshua.
He left behind him a great generation of sons, sons in law and tens of grandchildren
