In light of the rising tension between Jordan and Israel, after an Israeli diplomat shot and killed 2 Jordanian citizens who apparently attacked him- Jordan’s King Abdallah arrived in Ramallah earlier today to meet with PA president Mahmoud Abbas.
Upon disembarking from his plane, the Jordanian monarch was greeted by PA president Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian officials. The two silently stood as the Jordanian and Palestinian national anthems were played, as part of a short welcoming ceremony.
Following the short ceremony, King Abdallah shook hands with Palestinian officials and dignitaries who came to greet him.
It is believed that Abdallah came to discuss and advance national matters, including the handling of religious sites in Israel; namely Har Habayis. Palestinian officials refrained from commenting about what the two leaders will be discussing.
However, they did say that the incidents in Yerushalayim will be on the agenda.
According to Palestinian sources, due to the recent incidents on Har Habayis, the relationship between Ramallah and Amman has gotten warmer, and the 2 leaders decided to meet and discuss the matter in person.
Abbas has decided not to leave Ramaiah in the near future so that he does not have to coordinate his leave with Israel, keeping with his threat to cut all ties with Israel, because of the Har Habayis incidents. Instead, King Abdallah decide to come to Ramallah and meet with Abbas at his residence. This is Abdallah’s first time coming to Ramallah for an official meeting with Abbas.

The sources also claim that King Abdallah was very insulted with the way Israel handled the Israeli embassy crisis in Jordan.
Last week King Abdallah commented that the way Israel will handle the investigation, and its outcome, will directly affect the relationship between the two countries. Abdallah strongly criticized Netanyahu for the way he handled the crisis, and accused him of profiting personal political points through the crisis.
Israel committed itself to investigate the incident in Jordan which left an Israeli diplomat injured, and 2 Jordanian citizens dead.
This past Friday, the state prosecutor ordered the police to open an investigation into the incident. The justice department released a statement saying, “The police investigation will be conducted with the close assistance of the state attorney’s office, and in view of the findings that will be raised, consideration will also be given to requesting from the Jordanian authorities additional material”
