Warming Up: Finance Minister Moshe Kachlon Meets With Palestinian Prime Minister

Minister of finance Moshe Kachlon who unofficially represents the left’s view in the current government, and major general Yoav mordechai who coordinates matters in the territories met with palestinian PM Rami Hamdallah, and minister for civilian matters Chasin A-Shaych in Ramallah, on motzei Shavuos.

According to Kachlon, the meeting was to present the ‘civil-economical’ matters that Israel will advance for the palestinians, in light of president Trump's recent visit, and the cabinet’s approval of the measures.


The meeting was held with the knowledge and approval of PM Netanyahu and defense minister Avigdor Liberman, and is part of a series of ongoing meetings in civil matters, kachlon has been holding with palestinian officials since he was elected.

During the visit, which was accompanied by professional teams of the Israeli Ministry of Finance and the ‘Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories’, the civil-economic measures, approved by the Cabinet right before Trumps arrival, were presented to the palestinian officials.


The measures include, among other things, the expansion of the Allenby Crossing to remain open 24 hours a day in the coming months, extending the hours of crossings in Yehudah and shomron; and upgrading them to allow smoother passage.

The measures also include the establishment of an industrial zone near the Tarqumiya crossing, and adaptation of the Israeli enforcement policy in specific and defined areas located in Area C, and adjacent to Areas A and B.

As well, economic and financial teams at the meeting agreed to strengthen and encourage Israeli-Palestinian economic cooperation.

In addition the meeting was also attended by tax Authority Director Moshe Asher, Head of Budget Division at the Ministry of Finance, Amir Levi, and Head of the Civil Division of the COGAT, Col. Khatib Mansour.
