According to foreign sources, Israel attacked an Iranian weapons depot near the Damascus international airport in Syria. The attack took place during the the pre-dawn hours this morning (Thursday), and according to a Reuters report, Syrian rebels claim the bombing took place at an Iranian weapons warehouse where weapons intended for transfer to Hezbollah are stored.

Large explosions were heard last night, idlest thee separate ones, near the Damascus airport according to the ‘Syrian human rights watch’ and other Arab media outlets in Syria. At the moment, there are no reports of injuries.

According to Hezbollah’s official news agency ‘El-Manar’, Israel is behind the pre-dawn attack is Syria.

Russian media outlets also reported the attack and pointed a blaming finger at Israel as the one behind the attack. According to the Russian ‘Sputnik’ news agency, a little after 3:00 AM this morning, Israel bombed five different military targets in the Damascus international airport. The Russian ‘Kayson‘ also reported the bombing and accused Israel of being behind it.

In the past, Israel has made it very clear that it won’t allow missiles or any other weapons to reach the hands of Hezbollah. It is believed that the missiles attacked last night were Iranian weapons heading to Hezbollah Via-Syria, and were therefore destroyed before they could reach the terror groups hands.

Two months ago, Israel attacked a weapons depot in the heart of Syria. Although Israel keeps a low profile on these kind of operations, the operation was made public after an anti-aircraft missile was fired towards the Israeli jets, and an iron dome missile defense system successfully intercepted it.

Wallah news agency reported this week that an elite Israeli commander commented on that bombing saying that “one hundred Syrian rockets that were meant to be transferred to Hezbollah were destroyed in that attack”.

He also added that in the past few years the IDF has operated many times against the Syrians.
