A tense night past over the residents of Amona, a town in the Binyamin regional council, which is set to be evicted any day. Last night the residents rejected the government’s latest offer to have them relocated to a nearby area in exchange for a peaceful evacuation of the town.
The residents claim that the offer is not reasonable and is dependent on many “ifs” and “buts” which leaves them with nothing concrete.
As stated, the residents rejected the government’s offer last night, which now clears the way for a forced expulsion of the towns residents. There is no set date for the eviction but it is assumed that the police will carry it out within the next few days.
“Bechadrei chareidim’s” correspondent in the town reports that since yesterday hundreds of people have been arriving in the town in order to protest the forced expulsion of the local residents. It is estimated that by Friday morning 1,500 more people will arrive at the town.
Itamar ben Gvir, a rightwing activist, arrived at the town a little past midnight to show support to the residents. In an interview, he gave to “Bechadrei Chareidim” he warns the security forces not to use violence and gives an insight into what’s expected.
- The resident of Amona rejected the government’s proposal and are now facing a forced eviction in the coming days what can you tell us on the matter?
“ I arrived here at about twelve o’clock to tell the resident that I love them support and embrace them. Who like me knows that it’s not a simple decision. With all their deliberations, especially since politicians from the right also put pressure on them to accept an agreement of fraud and surrender.
I am glad that they did not agree to the hapless agreement.”
- Do you have any idea when the eviction will take place?
“No. But I can tell you that the offer the resident were offered is wretched, and on the practical level does not offer them any promise. The offer contains many “if the high court will approve” and “If the political leadership will approve”- we know where this is leaning, and it was not to be accepted. Besides for this, it’s a big chillul Hashem to evict Jews from Erets Yisroel.
Is this a right-wing government? This will not pass quietly, and it’s good that the residents rejected the offer”.
- Are we going to see violence ahead of us?
“I remember the Last time there was an eviction in Amona, the police smashed heads of young teenagers. I hope that Roni Alshich (chief of police) and the attorney general will control their forces and prevent them from harming our young ones”.
