Preparations are being made by the electric company and local municipalities in anticipation of a major storm that is moving into the area and is expected to start tonight (Wednesday).
Weather forecasters are predicting a drastic drop in temperatures as well as heavy rains accompanied by strong gusts of wind to start tonight in the north. The rains are expected to slowly spread south and reach the coastal cities by tomorrow afternoon.
During the morning hours wind gusts are expected to reach up to 90 kmh and will cause heavy fog in the center of the country as well as minor sandstorms in the south. Towards the afternoon, the rains will arrive in the Gush Dan area accompanied by thunder storms.
Heavy downpours are expected to continue thorough the evening and into the night, floods are also expected at the designated areas and along the cost.
The first snow fall of the season is expected fall tomorrow night at the Chermon. Rains are set to continue throughout the day tomorrow and are expected to stop towards Friday afternoon. Nice and dry weather is expected for Shabbos.
High tides are expected along the cost with waves reaching from up to 2 meters high. Authorities are completing their preparations for the storm, calling on drivers to inspect their vehicles and make sure that they are prepared for the upcoming weather system.
MDA is also preparing for the upcoming storm, putting out a statement urging people to avoid areas that can get covered in ice and more are prone to accidents. People are also being urged to stay away from loose awnings that can collapse in the strong winds.
The Jerusalem district fire department is reminding people to tighten anything that can collapse from the strong winds such as antennas, Schachs and awnings. In the event of an electric pole collapsing the electric company is asking residents to immediately contact them at their hotline, 103. As well, in the event of fallen trees or stuffed sewers, residents are urged to contact an emergency hotline.
Precaution should also be taken regarding heaters, making sure they are not left unattended or without proper adult supervision.
