Ministers: “Terror Arson”

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu posted this morning on his Facebook page saying, “I spoke to Russian president Vladimir Putin a short while ago asking for assistance in battling the fires. President Putin responded kindly and said Russia will immediately send 2 large be-200 Beriev firefighting planes to help extinguish the flames. I kindly thanked President Putin for his help”.

Minister of Transportation Yisroel Kats commented this morning on the ongoing fires all over Israel saying, “the many fires raging out of control all over the country are intentional arson. I am planning to change the law and allow the confiscation of property and possessions of those indicted for arson. The confiscations will go towards compensating those that have been affected and as a deterrence for future arsonists”.
Referring to the around the clock dedication of the firefighters he said “I applaud those that are fighting the fires and I thank all that are helping them”.
Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked added to her Facebook page section 448, of the penalty laws which deals with arson of properties. “intentional arson on another’s possession is punishable by 15-year sentence”. States the law “Done with the intention of harming state or public property, nature reserve…or harming life, 20-year sentence”.

Minister of culture and sport Miri Regev commented on the many areas that are simultaneously burning. ‘’It is obvious that the many fires all over the country are not a natural occurrence. The brave firefighter’s, security forces and Hatsalah are all doing professional and holy work around the clock”. Referring to the arsonists she said “We must put our hands on the terrorists that are burning down our forests and endangering many lives”.

MK Nava also joined the condemnations this morning saying “200 hundred fires in one day!?, the time has come to publicly call it by its name, this is ecological terror.

MK Oren Chazan from the likud, is initiating a new law that will impose harsh sentences on nationalistic motivated arsons, including life in prison. Chazan referred to the wave of fires raging across the country as “the ‘arson intifada’ perpetrated by hostile elements. In my eyes, it’s more severe than the Knife Intifada” Said Hazzan, adding “Most of the fires seem to be the work of arsonists, we have to catch those that are responsible and bring them to justice as if they carried out a terror attack. This is very severe in my eyes because it can lead to mass- casualties”.
