Throughout the long meeting at Trump Tower in New York, Trump told Netanyahu that under his presidency, America would "recognize Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the State of Israel." While Israel considers Jerusalem its capital, few other countries do. Most governments maintain embassies in Tel Aviv.

Clinton, however, stressed her commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship and her commitment to a two-state resolution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

According to Reuters, Trump stated that he agreed with Netanyahu that peace in the Middle East would be achieved only when "the Palestinians renounce hatred and violence and accept Israel as a Jewish State."
