The cause of the fire is yet unclear. Both Ocean County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Jackson Police Department remained on the scene for several hours leading their investigation.

Heshy Thumin, a volunteer with Minyan Shelanu, a unique program offering help to teens at risk said that the organization provides vital services to many in the Lakewood communities.
“We all know about the drug epidemic in our society, and unfortunately Lakewood is no different,” Thumin told VIN News.

Minyan Shelanu has been in the building for two years. It has been as a drop-in center with nightly programming, meals, coaching, counseling and social activities.

The many girls who spent time at the facility referred to the building often as “the chill.” Girls say: The chill house was a home to me, where I can feel safe and loved. I experienced Moments filled with care and kindness in this place. I’ll miss it.”
