It's official: The US eliminated ISIS spokesman

Adnani had been targeted in a strike, but US officials did not confirm he is. Russia's Security Department stated on Aug. 31 that a Russian airstrike had killed Adnani.

On Monday, the Pentagon confirmed that a US air strike killed Islamic State general and spokesperson Abu Mohamed al-Adnani in northern Syria last month. “The strike near Al Bab, Syria, removes from the battlefield ISIS chief propagandist, recruiter, and architect of external terrorist operations,” Pentagon press correspondent Peter Cook said.

The August 30 air strike was conducted by a Predator buzz, which shot a missile at the car Adnani was traveling in. Officials say Adnani was the main speaker for IS, and he had been grately involved in the group's attacks over the past year, including Paris, Brussels and Istanbul airports, and suicide bombings at a gathering in Ankara.

Adnani actively recruited new members to IS and Cook has earlier stated that Adnani had organized the operation of IS fighters, encouraged assaults on civilians and military members.
