Rabbi Eliezer Berland, awaiting a decision whether to extend the detention until the end of his proceedings, somehow managed to send a letter of support to his Chassidim. They claim that this letter is supporting the protest tent erected outside "Ella" prison in Beersheva where the rabbi is kept in custody.
However, it should be noted that the letter does not mention the protest encampment, but merely seeks to support Rabbi Aharon Schwartz. In addition, the way in which the letter got sent out not quite clear.
In a letter written in his own handwriting, first published in "Chadrei Charedim" the Rabbi writes: "To my Chassidim and the rest of Klal Yisroel, I ask everyone to please help Rabbi Aharon Schwartz who runs the Kehila Kedosha here in Beersheva. Each and every person should contribute generously for the expenses are tremendous. "
Rabbi Berland also wrote to his followers: "Anyone who comes here must learn at least three times a day. Every individual should try to learn seven times, Maseches Kiddushin if possible. B'Birchas Hatorah, Eliezer Berland."
It's been a month since Rabbi Eliezer Berland, Shuvu Banim community leader, was extradited from South Africa to Israel.
After a protracted saga, which lasted mainly until the indictment against him that extended his term until another decision. Last week a probation report recommended leaving the Rabbi in custody but the rabbi himself argued and asked a supplementary survey and only after should the court decision be obtained for whether to release the Rabbi or offer an alternative to detention.
