Isabel Belders, a charedi woman from Texas, United States, filed a lawsuit against the Office of the Sheriff and Dallas county claiming she had not been hired because of her request not to work on Shabbos and to be released earlier on Friday and holidays.

According to the JTA news agency, in July 2013 Belders applied for the job as information resources developer at the Office of the Sheriff and got the job. But after the sheriff said that since she will have to leave the office 30 minutes before the end of the working day on Friday during the winter, she was told that she can't get the job done.

Isabel's attorney, attorney Robert Lee said that Isabel has offered to compensate the firm and work overtime on weekdays, instead of constantly subtracting holiday evenings, but the Office of the Sheriff refused.

Last weekend Belders filed a claim to District Court for damages totaling 100 thousand dollars against the Dallas County and Sheriff's office on the grounds of civil rights violations and discrimination on religious grounds.

Office of the Sheriff of Dallas told the newspaper "Dallas Morning News" that Belders did not mention her need for special consideration in light of her religion when interviewed. The position of information management requires availability around the clock and throughout the week and the director of the information to be accessible in case of emergency during weekends.
