Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Bender, leader of the Breslev Chassidim, made Aliya from Uman in 1949. On the night of Tisha B'Av he was the Shliach Tzibur for megillas Eicha.
As a jew he personally experienced the destruction many Jewish communities. He lost relatives, got sent to jail and almost killed for spreading Yiddishkeit. He knew to emphasize the words of Yermiaha Hanavi in his Kinos
