First published in ‘Bechadrey Charedim’: about five months after he was arrested for smuggling cocaine from Brazil to israel, the Gabai from a shul in Ashdod, will return to Israel after Tisha B'Av.
His release was made possible thanks to the efforts of Chaim Dovid Weiss, who greatly assisted in the case. In a conversation with ‘Bechadrey Charedim’ CD”W denied the rumors that he abandoned the case.
According to information first uncovered in ‘Bechadrey Charedim’, a 29 years old chassidic guy, came to the Kurumba airport next to the capital Campo Grande in Brazil, a day after purim. Security screening of his baggage, found a large quantity of drugs traded in the Israeli market for value of one million dollars.
Since his arrest, activists have tried to help to release him and bring him back to Israel. "Israeli was caught with 1.5 kilograms of pure cocaine," local media reported at the time. According to what was reported, he tried to get out of Sao Paulo, and then go to Europe.
The drug was found during boarding using X-ray machine placed by federal police agents, after a yeshiva bochur looked nervous when he handed his bag through the scanner.
"This is a choshuv man, Gabai of a Shul and involved in kiruv," said one of his associates to Bechadrey Charedim’. "There is no doubt that someone took advantage of his innocence, and convinced him to transfer a package, without mentioning the content of it."
