A number of suspects invented a story about hundreds of children that were supposedly abducted by a cult in a religious neighborhood in Jerusalem, were abused and even converted to Christianity- all this in order to raise money to their own pockets from donors and organizations.
The police of Israel are investigating the case which reveals that a few suspects received money dishonestly from donors in Israel and abroad including governmental organizations, while claiming the existence of a cult that's connected to Christianity and abuses young children.
The confidential investigation started about two years ago in result of information that was received regarding a cult that abducts children of ages 4-10 in order to hurt and abuse them in addition to converting them to Christianity. The information received, reported hundreds of harmed children in the Sanhedriah neighborhood in Jerusalem.
Police revealed that no such cult exists or existed and that the suspects invented the false information and spread it to the community. The results of the investigation indicate a few incidents of suspected child abuse, but no connection was found between those cases and the fictive cult.
Three of the suspects, were held for questioning yesterday, and were brought to Merchav Zion for investigation. The suspects were interrogated on the grounds of child abuse and obtaining by fraud.
The investigation, which was held by the prosecution and welfare services, ended today while two of the suspects, a man and woman, were released to house arrest. the court imposed a gag order on the identity of the suspects.
This case has great significance to the English speaking community in Jerusalem, who were seriously involved in this case a couple of years ago.
