Although the beginning of Obama's remarks at the Dallas memorial were well spoken and had a unifying effect on listeners, many people were angered by his using the solemn occasion to push his political platform.

There has been a large outcry in publications across the United States over what many people consider Obama's hijacking of the memorial to discuss racial tensions and his sympathy for Black Lives Matter groups.

Obama said," We also know that centuries of racial discrimination, of slavery, and subjugation, and Kim Crow; they didn't simply vanish with the law against segregation…we know that bias remains. We know it, whether you are black, or white, or Hispanic, or Asian, or native American, or of Middle Eastern descent…No institution is entirely immune, and that includes our police departments."

Many were upset about the timing of his remarks which were felt to be very inappropriate at a memorial for white policemen who were targeted because of their race and murdered by a Black Lives Matter extremist.
