North Korean media reports that the military has issued a statement of "unwavering will of our army to deal a ruthless retaliatory strike."
Such a threat against the United States and South Korea is a regular occurrence. When the U.S. imposed sanctions last week on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Pyongyang reacted by calling that an "open declaration of war."
Beijing and Moscow are also opposed to the deployment of the new anti-missile system which they see as the U.S. hardening its military presence in the region.
The U.S. argues that it is necessary due to an intensifying of threats from North Korea which has conducted a series of missile tests, as well as its fourth nuclear test.
