Twenty Killed in Bangladesh Hostage Crises

Six militants entered the Holy Artisan Bakery Friday night, taking 33 hostages. Many people managed to escape by climbing to the roof and jumping to other buildings. The terrorist shouted Allahu Akbar as they stormed the café at about 9:10 p.m.

They left Bangladeshi citizens alone, but murdered 20 hostages- all of them foreign nationals- when they were unable to recite verse from the Koran.

After 12 hours the police stormed the bakery. The militants were shot, 5 died and one was captured alive. Two police officers also died.

The hostages who died were mostly foreign nationals: 9 were Italian, 7 were Japanese, one was Indian, and two were Bangladeshi but had been studying in the U.S.
The U.S. state department says one United States citizen was killed.
