American Rabbanim Fight Back

The Novominsker Rebbe addressed the topic of child abuse and molestation at the recent Torah Umesorah convention. Below is a partial transcription of his speech.

"One of the problems that we are facing more today that we weren't aware of [in the past] and has to mentioned for a number of reasons is the abuse of young people and molestation.

"And the leitznei hador feel we don't care about it. The bloggers feel that the charedi world dismisses the problem and are not sufficiently sympathetic to the victims and are interested in protecting the perpetrators. Sheker V'chazav! The rabanim here know better than I the dozens and dozens of hours we sat and deliberated every aspect of the issue.

"We need to see that the perpetrators are not there to disturb our children. Parents need to be sensitive and conscious as to how to talk to their children and how to sensitise them in an intelligent way against people who chaliha vchas are in skanah of molesting them. When they go to camp and elsewhere and how it should be brought to the authorities. I've heard we are being accused about not being sufficiently sensitive about this issue- sheker vchazav!
