In a tied decision the Supreme Court blocked President Obama's executive actions, effectively giving a win to states challenging the president's plan to give millions of illegal immigrants a deportation reprieve.
The tie vote does not set any national precedent but it leaves the lower court ruling in place. The New Orleans federal appeals court said that the Obama administration does not have the authority to give 4 million illegal immigrants a reprieve from deportation.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said," The Constitution is clear: The president is not permitted to write laws- only Congress is. This is another major victory in our fight to restore the separation of powers. He said that the ruling made Obama's actions "null and void".
