Bachur Arrested: Family Opposes Protests

The family of Shlomo Levi, a yeshiva Bachur in Tzfas was arrested for failing to appear at the recruitment office. His family reports that he had appeared as was required a number of times, but since he was orphaned of his father, he has had greater responsibilities at home and did not have the emotional energy to take care of the deferment process.

He was arrested close to midnight last night in Tzefat and was transferred to a local jail and from there to jail4. Tomorrow he will be brought to a hearing to decide if his arrest will be lengthened.

A family member told Bechadrey charedim," since the bachur does not have a father he has had to help out a lot at home. Therefor he did not have the emotional energy to attend to his deferment. He is a Sephardi yeshiva bachur who follows the path of the Rabbis, especially Harav Yitzchak Yosef who has ruled that it is necessary to present oneself at the recruitment office. He has made a number of appearances as was required- but was unable to go the last time due to his difficult family situation.
"We are opposed to protests on his behalf. They will just cause him damage. Instead we call upon the tzibbur to daven and learn for the success of Shlomo Ben Hadassah Roza."
