Degel Hatorah responds to the Reform after Bchadrey Charedim publicized yesterday that the Reform movement lodged a complaint with the Knesset ethics committee.
MK Moshe Gafne gave his answer to the ethics committee yesterday and wrote," there is no law that demands that a Knesset Member must be present when someone speaks. Even if the MK is the committee chairman he is allowed to find a substitute among the other committee members and he does not need to hear the words of any speaker who was given permission to speak."
Gafni then mentioned the Reform and Conservative movements. "The Reform and Conservative movements are stabbing the holy Torah, and Judaism in the back. They have caused assimilation of catastrophic proportions amongst Jews in the county of their origin. Those places are not here in Israel and yet they are trying any which way to dig their dangerous talons into the State of Israel.
"I have sat down over the years with many people and causes that I do not see eye to eye with, with powers that we are locked in fierce battle with. I listen and respond and vote against their stands- yet I dialogue with them as is expected. With the Reform and Conservative I have never sat down, and will never G-d willing sit with them. I demand that they remove their hands from the State of Israel and allow its citizens to live their lives according to their way and their beliefs. They must stop attacking all that is holy and dear to us in the fragile tapestry of relations between the religious and the secular, the right and the left, Jew and Arab. They should stop breeding discord. They should rather deal with the serious problems they have created in many countries in the world- and leave us alone."
