Aryeh Deri, Yakov Litzman and Moshe Gafni met Monday in Litzman's office in response to the decision of a number of municipalities to initiate public transportation on Shabbos, and the resulting disruption of the status quo.

The heads of the charedi parties are concerned about the escalation of the chilul Shabbos. They decided to instruct the parties' legal advisors to research what can be done to stop these disruptions. They also decided to request the help of the Prime Minister in the advancement of their decisions.

The concern is over the decision of the municipality of Herzliya to instate public transportation on Shabbos with funding from sources such as property taxes. Emek Cheifer, Arad, Be'er Sheva and Kfar Saba also have plans to begin public transportation on Shabbos.

A senior source within Shas told Bechadrey Charedim yesterday:" Shas and Aryeh Deri will fight against damage to the status quo…we will not allow municipalities to break the law and offend the sensitivities of religious and traditional Jews."
Deputy Minister of education, Meir Parush told Bechadrey Charedim:" we are talking about offending the sanctity of Shabbos in contradiction of the status quo. We will demand that the Prime Minister and the Minister of transportation put an end to this disgrace."
