According to a BBC report a group of 47 children and four adults went missing on Lake Syamozero after a storm. The group of teens between the age of 12 and 15 had been staying at a nearby summer camp in a popular tourism destination.

Ignoring warning of an impending storm the group set out in two boats and a raft Saturday. The craft were scattered by the storm and help was alerted after a 12 year old girl called Yulia washed up on the shore. After regaining consciousness she walked along the shore to the village of Kudama where she asked for assistance. Along the way she came upon another survivor, an injured boy who was unable to walk. She alerted the authorizes about the group lost on the lake as well as the injured boy on the shore.

Most of the 37 survivors had reached an island in middle of the lake.

Unfortunately 14 people died in this incident, all of them children. Four people were arrested on suspicion of safety violations.
