Bayit Yehudi MK Shuli Meulam Refaeli proposed a law which would ban men who are imprisoned for refusing to grant their wives a divorce, from being housed in the religious wing of the prison. Such men would not be allowed to learn, nor to receive Mehadrin meals or spend time in the religious section of the prison. The goal here is to increase pressure on thiese men to give their wives a divorce.

Unfortunately there are those who choose to sit in prison rather than give their wives a get.

The new law is designed to make their stay uncomfortable enough that they would hopefully agree to divorce their wives in order to get out of prison.

Mk Shuli Meulam Refaeli said," A man who bounds his wife by refusing to divorce her and is not willing to listen to the ruling of the dayanim is not truly a man who finds halacha or leading a Jewish life style important. He is trampling one of the basic tenants of Judaism which is "Love your fellow as yourself". His whole goal here is to embitter his wife's life. Therefore he is not worthy of enjoying the list of privileges that the prions grants religious Jews."
