In the wake of the recent and shocking tragedies to hit Orlando the past few days, experts predict that the city's tourism industry is likely to take a short term hit.
Many Americans may still come in order to show their sympathy for the people of Orlando on the wake of the devastating mass shooting and the terrifying death of a two year old boy who was attacked by an alligator.
But internationally there will be less sympathy. Many non-Americans may put off visiting Disney World in the near future.
A Fox News report has found that data from Euromonitor International has shown that major tragedies can negatively affect local tourism. After more than 100 people were killed November in Paris overnight visits among foregin travelers dropped 6.3 percent in the following months.
Professor Abraham Pizam, of University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management, told FoxNews.com: " By many accounts, he [Omar Mateen, the gunman who killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub in downtown Orlando] had scouted Disney property and after careful surveillance decided [Pulse] was a softer target. He likely saw the metal detectors, bag inspectors and realized it would be much harder to commit such a heinous crime there.”
Suzanne Rowan Kellehr, Family vacations expert at About.com said," “Right now, you have a perfect storm of events where parents are legitimately questioning ‘Is Florida a safe place to bring my kids, my family?’
Though experts predict a dip in visitors to the world's most visited place, it expected that these tragic events will not have a long term effect on Disney World.
