With just two weeks to go until the final deadline by which the Israeli government will have to announce their decision regarding the organized prayer of women at the Kosel , tensions are running high.
Many different factions representing many different opinions on the topic have formed.
There is the voice of the Rav of the Kosel Harav Rabinovitch who is backed by the Rav of the Old City Harav Nebenzahl . Harav Shmuel Rabinowitz feels that at this point there is no choice but compromise. He is willing to support a decision that will allow the reform community to conduct their own services at the Southern Kosel.
Harav Amar and Harav Lau are vehemently opposed to any compromise at all. They have come out strongly against giving in to the Reform in an way shape or form.
There are a group of women who consider themselves Orthodox (possibly belonging to a group called Open Orthodoxy ) who oppose the plan since they would like to pray with a mechitza- but while wearing tefillin and reading from the Torah. These women also oppose the compromise that would enlarge the area at Wilson's Arch to enable Reform women to pray in a coed ceremony.
