Baruch Dayan Ha'emes: In Modi'in Illit, Rabbi Amir Yahel zt"l, one of the rabbis of Libo Chafetz Kollel in the city, passed away at the age of 65 after contracting the disease six months ago.

The deceased was born in Kibbutz Dorot near Sderot. His grandfather was the late Nahum Twersky zt"l, who was the treasurer of the municipality of Tel Aviv and a Zionist leader.

Until the age of thirty, Rabbi Yahel served as commander of the Yahel flight instructors at the school of squadron pilots. After the Yom Kippur War, in the wave of ba'alei tshuva, he was one of the first, left all worldly possessions together with his two brothers Rabbi Yoav and Rabbi Gil Yahel - and moved to the moshav Tifrach in the south.

In Tifrah he concentrated on his studies incessantly, and became a tremendous talmid chochom. Although he gave up his position in the army, his military colleagues kept in touch with him and consulted with him.

18 years ago he moved to Modi'in Illit, where he continued to pursue his studies and set his place of prayer at the 'Chanichei Hayeshivos' of Hgra"i Barzel and Kollel Libo Chafetz - where he was one of the most prominent rabbis and lines trailed near his table to discuss in limud with him.

Eleven years ago, on the Seventeenth Sivan 5763, he lost his son the bochur Moshe Yahel z"l, one of the leading students at Maor Hatalmud yeshiva in Rehovot, who was killed in a harsh car accident at the entrance to Moshav Tifrah.

He is survived by a blessed generation: his wife, and 12 children, three of whom are not yet married.

The funeral left last night from Modiin Illit, attended by leaders of the tshuva world. He was eulogized by Hgra"i Barzel and his friend Rabbi Elchanan Sachs, from there the funeral proceeded to Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem, where he was eulogized Hagaon Rabbi Moshe Shapiro, who said that he was "the greatest of Mekadshei Hashem in this generation" as well as Hagr"a Pilz Rosh Yeshiva of Tifrah, his brother Rabbi Yoav Yahel and his son Rabbi Arnon Yahel. From there the funeral procession continued to Mount of Olives – where he was buried under heavy security.

May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
