Two Muslim residents of Rade'a Yemen, arrived yesterday (Monday) evening at the home of a Jewish orthodox family there, dragging Yosef - the father - when he is badly injured and unconscious.
The Muslims told the frightened family that the man was riding on his bicycle and had a car accident, and they decided to bring him home. The family rushed to bring Yosef to hospital, where he fought for his life.
Y., (full name withheld) who lives in Monsey, USA, a leader of an organization that is in regular contact with Jews in Yemen, relates to Behadrey Haredim: "Yesterday, late at night, I received a phone call from the family who told me about the event, and requested that we pray for the recovery of the father, he has four children. This is a haredi family - one of the few remaining in the city.
"The Muslims who brought him home said that Yosef was riding his bicycle was injured when a local car which fled the scene, hit him. Further information was not disclosed about the vehicle or the identity of the hitting driver, and the two locals who brought him, immediately left the house. We are very worried that this is an anti-Semitic incident, but local police prefer to ignore rather than engage in it, and a few Jews who remained in the city prefer to withdraw into themselves and not publish the case - so as not to arouse the wrath of their Muslim neighbors.
"Meanwhile, the family asks the public to pray for the healing of Yosef ben Mazal," says Y. and concludes: "We are an organization trying to help the Jews of Yemen in what can be, in general, it is no secret that the Jewish community in Yemen lives in constant fear, especially these days of the murder of an Arab youth, the situation there is hard."
