Ayelet Shaked: respond with force and power to maintain deterrence

At the background of a heated debate held yesterday (Monday) in the Cabinet and disagreements which arose as to the power of response against Hamas on account of the abduction and murder of the three boys Hy"d, today statements by MKs and ministers are heard about the price which Hamas will pay for responsibility for the kidnapping which took place.

Chairman of the Jewish Home, Ayelet Shaked, stated: "A weak leadership will lead to loss of deterrence and other victims, one could respond by force and power out of judgment too."

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said this morning that, "We see Hamas responsible for the kidnapping and murder, and we will come to settle accounts with it. We'll continue to pursue the murderers of the boys, we will not remain silent and will not rest until we lay our hands on them. So be it.

"During the last two and a half weeks, the IDF, ISA and Israel Police forces were busy with a wide-ranging intelligence and operational effort in the search after Naphtali, Eyal and Gil-ad. Ground forces, fighters and combat support from units and arms, acted in an impressive display of cooperation and a sense of mission. I want to thank the armed forces, members of the General Security Service, Border Police and the Israel Police for their tremendous effort, as well as the many volunteers who invested their ability and energy in the searches."

MK Yoni Shetbun of the Jewish Home also spoke in favor of a resolution on military action against Hamas and said: "The Knesset, the Government and in particular the security cabinet must decide, and fast: A painful military operation for the elimination of terrorist leaders and takeover of Hamas institutions. I will work with my colleagues in order that it does happen, we have no other way."

"Hezbollah and Jihad organizations are currently evaluating the Israeli response and robustness of our society, just as happened in 2006 in Gaza and Lebanon," Shetbun added.

Finance Minister Yair Lapid said regarding the murder of the boys: "It breaks one's heart upon receiving the news of the finding the bodies of Naphtali, Gil-ad and Eyal. I would like to send a warm hug to the families and assure them that we will continue and pursue those responsible for this crime. Hamas is responsible and Hamas will pay a heavy price. We will continue to work with determination and patience until we find these murderers. This is our obligation against those who try to harm the security of our children. "
