U.S. President Barack Obama welcomes the election of Reuven Rivlin as President of the State of Israel.
Statement issued by the U.S. President says "Reuven Rivlin has a long reputation of dedication to public service, and the United States looks forward to continuing the strong ties between the two countries under his presidency."
Obama also praised the outgoing president, Shimon Peres, the "legacy of courage, conviction and dedication," and for dedicating his life for peace.
Shimon Peres will meet with Barack Obama and will receive the Gold Medal of the U.S. Congress.
