Yesterday (Sunday) a hachnasas Sefer Torah to the Chabad House in Bangkok was held, attended by hundreds of Jewish travelers and residents of the community.
Rabbi Nehemia Wilhelm, director of Chabad house and emissary in Bangkok, told Behadrey Haredim: "We made a big procession with police escort, and then we had dances and hakafos and a seudas mitzvah at the Chabad House." He said, "Some young Israeli participants said that it was the first time they ever saw such an event."
The Sefer Torah procession through the city caused spiritual excitement among Jewish travelers who are distant from religion who attended it en masse. One of the travelers said to Rabbi Nehemia Wilhelm, "I have never felt such Jewish pride as I did when we walked down the Hakosen Street."
The donor is a young businessman from China. Several years ago he traveled in Thailand, visited the Chabad in Bangkok, and really enjoyed the service and the attitude given to all Jews. "When he succeeded in business, he became a major supporter of Chabad House, and now contributed to the Sefer Torah for the public," said Rabbi Wilhelm, who became his best friend as well.Photo: Chabad House of Bangkok archive
