MK Ben-Eliezer questioned under caution by Lahav 433

Four days before the presidential election, it appears that a dramatic change may occur in the map of runners.

Following information obtained by the Attorney General during the last week, about suspicion for unlawful money by MK and former minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, the Attorney General turned to the head of investigation and intelligence for a police investigation of the matter.

Subsequently, Ben-Eliezer was questioned under caution this morning at the offices of Lahav 433 for five hours. Meanwhile, the police refuse to add details.

This is a joint examination with the Tax Authority.

Ben-Eliezer's office said: "The timing of the police examination, four days before the presidential election, is puzzling. MK Ben-Eliezer arrived this morning, at a telephone notice of 20 minutes, to provide all the information requested. Ben-Eliezer asked the relevant parties to terminate the test as soon as possible and bring the truth to the public's attention."

The Movement for Quality Government announced that it requires the Legal Advisor to inform until noon on Sunday if Mr. Ben Eliezer is eligible to run for president or not.

"The Attorney General's decision to open an investigation at such a time and at this stage requires him to act and make a decision as quickly as possible in order not to argue that the process of presidential elections was contaminated with procedures and extraneous considerations of over-legalization. It is the obligation of the Attorney General to remove the cloud from the presidential election process."
