Panic: firestorm in Har Nof in the capital

Firestorm in the Jerusalem Forest, spreading to the outskirts of Har Nof neighborhood - in the midst of the holiday • synagogue burned to the ground, residential buildings were evacuated • member trying to evacuate Torah scrolls from the synagogue, injured by smoke inhalation • The fire started at eight locations - and allegedly covered by arson • Fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire only after long hours • testimony: "the whole area was full of smoke, a miracle"

Panic: firestorm in Har Nof in the capital

Suspicion of arson in the Jerusalem Forest near the neighborhood of Har Nof in the midst of the holiday.

Four residential buildings were evacuated and the synagogue was on fire this afternoon, in Har Nof, Jerusalem.

The fire started in several locations in the Jerusalem Forest, spreading the outskirts of Har Nof Neighborhood on Zerach Bernat.

At 13:40 received a report about the fire and six fire crews were rushed to the place, crews arrived they noticed that the fire quickly spread from the forest to the synagogue located at the edge of the forest , plus flames and heavy smoke spread into a nearby building .

Fire fighters immediately began scanning for trapped people in the building and other teams carried off many fire sources.

Another five teams to help the teams to take over the flames and evacuate civilians from the burning building and nearby buildings which were filled with heavy smoke.

Police assisted fire fightersand volunteers of United Hatzalah and MDA evacuated civilians to safety from the smoldering buildings. One civilian was injured by smoke and evacuated by MDA.

Thanks to the rapid and decisive action of the fire fighters in Jerusalem avoided major disaster to casualties.

Fire partially burned a synagogue and one apartment and another apartment was severely damaged. Additionally burned ten acres of woodland and minor damage to another many apartments.

Investigates fires Ronnie Reshef said, "The fire in Har Nof endangered dozens and destroyed synagogue houses and woods apparently began as a result of arson. By luck only the event didn’t end with disaster."

Elijah Eliovic spokesman for Har Nof MDA, in a message to Behadrey Haredim, "there are a number of people suffering from shortness of breath as a result of smoke inhalation. Dozens of volunteers were dispatched to the scene and the ambulance organization operated in conjunction with MDA Jerusalem.

"The whole area was filled with heavy smoke spread to adjacent streets. A person is suffering from shortness of breath as a result of smoke inhalation after rescuing Torah scrolls from the synagogue which began to catch fire. Due to the size of the event and the concern for human life about thirty-five paramedics and EMTs were called who treated the victim and assisted in the evacuation of four large buildings with the terrified occupants, with an emphasis on extracting disabled residents. Force also summoned additional reinforcement MDA ambulance. By grace of heaven there were no casualties except the person being treated at the scene.

So too, two fire crews assisted by volunteers from Emanuel assisted in evacuating the synagogue Berach Beit Yisrael.

Having mastered the fire investigation was opened. The county fire investigators determined that candles were left in place on a plastic chair next to a window curtain made rapid spread of fire. There was damage to holy books.

Even in Hadera: a wildfire fire started to spread and reached the surrounding buildings. Large fire forces, police and municipal police evacuated residents of two buildings in the area.

Two elderly people were rescued and one policeman was injured by smoke inhalation and taken care of by a team of Magen David Adom.
