Suspicion that the Ark of a shull on 37 Hovevei Zion Street in Petah Tikva was torched during Shabbos is under investigation.
It is suspected that an unknown entered the synagogue during the day while it was empty of worshipers (probably in the afternoon), opened several books, poured a flammable liquid on the Ark, lit it and fled.
The ark was damaged, but the Torah scrolls were not.
Police regard the incident with severity, an investigation was opened in Petah Tikva police station led by investigating officer of the station.
At the same time, suspicion of firing up a synagogue near a gas station on Route 6 is being checked. This is a parked caravan used for the organization of Chabad, and was burned to the ground. Police are investigating the circumstances of the case.
