During Shabbos, hundreds of residents of the Old City of Jerusalem attended a prayer protest against the intention to give the site to the Vatican. Tonight a Melave Malka will be held, integrated in the mass protest activity.
Hundreds of residents of the Old City came to daven Kabbalas Shabbos and Ma'ariv at the Tomb of King David compound on Mount Zion. At the request of the local rabbis, including Rabbi of the Old City Hagaon R' Avigdor Nevenzahl, President Council of Torah Sages Hgr"s Cohen, Hgr"s Kook Rabbi of the Hurva Synagogue, Hagr"b Wieder Rosh Yeshivat Hakotel and Hagr"a Zilberman Rosh Yeshiva Aderet Eliyahu.
The Rabbis mentioned in their appeal that the prayer will take place due to "documents which have been presented to them proving negotiations underway to give parts of David's Tomb complex, in order to expand the use of the churches ceremonies for avodah zorah, Hashem yerachem. "
This evening too, a traditional Melave Malka will take place on the site combined with protest activity. It will be attended, according to the organizers, by singers Aharon Raza'el and Yosef Chaim Shwekey, and several city council members.
Dozens of police officers were deployed to the site after receiving a report according to which right-wing activists plan to break into a part sanctified by the Christian religion as a sacred site and harm it before the pope's visit.
