Haredi adviser to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Avi Abuhazera, sent a response letter to Attorney Gilad Corinaldi who coordinated the requests of organizations operating around the Tomb of David in the struggle of delivering it to the Vatican, in which he makes it clear that the Foreign Ministry has no intention whatsoever to sign an agreement during the Pope's visit regarding prayers rights or in the King David's Tomb complex.
The letter was sent by Abuhazera following the conversation took place between them to clarify the position of the Foreign Ministry on the issue.
"When it comes to rumors about delivering the 'Cenacle' to the Vatican," writes Abuhazera, "they are baseless. This is part of an attempt to agitate the surface and cause tensions surrounding the visit. It must be emphasized that there is no intention to move or give possession or rights whatsoever in the Room the Last Supper to the Vatican, not during the Pope's visit to Israel and not thereafter. The State of Israel has the traditional position that the 'Cenacle' and any other part of the site on Mount Zion will not be transferred to the ownership or possession of the Vatican in any way."
Last week, it was exposed in Behadrey Haredim that a hearing summoned by Interior Committee chairman regarding rumors about David's Tomb was canceled - after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister made it clear that there is no such intention and requested to cancel the hearing. Earlier this week the letter of Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitz was revealed, which led to the cancellation of the hearing, in which he notes that the proceedings at this time of the Pope's visit might incite extremists who have in mind the need to disrupt and interfere with the normal course of the visit.
