Eli Cohen declares war: "divide Beit Shemesh"

War on Beit Shemesh: Chairman of opposition in Beit Shemesh City Council declares this evening (Tuesday) the start of a campaign for the division of the city.

This evening in a meeting with members of his party he announced: 'We're going for a course of separation".

According to his people, the move has the full support of all members of the opposition, and on Thursday there will be a press conference where the campaign will be announced.

After the elections, Eli Cohen stated that he is opposed to the division of the city but if elected mayor Moshe Aboutbul would not answer his demands, he would support the move.

Over the last period, voices from the opposition calling for the distribution of the city were constantly heard. The calls came to a head when Councilman Richard Peres, announced his support for the division of the city by a wall.

However, Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar in whose hand is the authority to decide on the idea of partition, made clear in a letter sent to MK Meir Porush that the idea of partition is "unfeasible".

As mentioned, up to this stage Eli Cohen was opposed to the idea, but it turns out that this evening he changed his mind and decided to go ahead with the struggle for division. "The mayor did not respond to my requests for the good of the Zionist population and is ignoring us," said Cohen, "We have no other choice."
