Eli Yishai with Minister of Housing
MK Eli Yishai and Housing Minister Uri Ariel met today (Monday), in the Knesset against the Treasury plan to lower VAT on apartments for young couples.
The meeting aimed to promote cooperation and testing ways to lower the discrimination terms which Lapid promotes for 0 % VAT.
In a heated debate on the Finance Committee, Housing Minister attacked the intention to allow an exemption from VAT to buyers who did not do military service - only for homes that cost 600 thousand shekels. "There is room for a more equitable plan," said the minister. "But this proposed plan will not be, because there are no such apartments and because the Finance Committee will not allow it.
"There is no such animal. The Treasury appear to have found some apartments and warehouses at this price. Ultimately what this committee will decide is what will be."
