Hgrm"tz Bergman to Hagr"s Cohen: "Harav Schach said to be moser nefesh"

During the conference for Lev Le'Achim in Bnei Brak held last night, Hagaon R' Moshe Tzvi Bergman member Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah, and the President of the Council of Torah Sages of Shas Hagaon R' Shlomo Cohen, head of Yeshivat Porat Yosef, met. The two developed a long conversation which revolved around the issue of the decree of recruitment of yeshiva students, Harav Bergman mentioned the fiery words of Harav Cohen at the conference of both councils, and the tears he shed for the Torah world.

Hgrm"tz noted to Hgr"s Cohen that his father-in-law Maran Harav Shach zt"l told him that when the matter of recruiting yeshiva students will be factual, he should publish in his name "that one needs to be moser nefesh for it, and one should resist it just like the halachos of Kiddush Hashem, and as was ruled in the Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah that one should sacrifice for it, and now we have reached this time," said Hgrm"tz while Hgr"s listened carefully.

Harav Cohen then told Harav Bergman that recently he searched for a source that Harav Bergman brought in his book for a certain Ohr Sameach, and did not find, and Harav Bergman told him where the exact location in the book is. Later in the conversation the two discussed matters of halacha and agaddah.

At the event, when Hagaon R' Chaim Kanievsky left the conference, Hgr"s Cohen and Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky stood talking, in the conversation Hgr"s Cohen told Hagaon R' Chaim that he used to come often to his father the Steipler to be blessed and consult with him. In conclusion Hgr"s Cohen asked Hagaon R' Chaim for a brocha that he will merit to increase and glorify Torah and R' Chaim replied "Amen".

Meanwhile, this morning the new President of the Council of Torah Sages of Shas received the title of "Hagaon Hagadol" in Yated Ne'eman and in Hapeles, a title reserved and written primarily by members of the Council of Torah Sages and the great Roshei Yeshiva, while in Yated the title 'Rosh Yeshiva Porat Yosef' was attached, and in Hapeles the title " President of the Council of Torah Sages" was given him.
