Ashdod Mayor Yechiel Lasry announced that he will not participate in the Maimona holiday event, because of the exclusion of women. But as it turns out this is a mistake.
Torah Culture Department Ashdod Municipality is holding this evening a major event for Maimona designed primarily for the haredim in the city, attended by rabbis Hagaon Scheinin and Rabbi Chaim Pinto and with the participation of the Rishon Hgr"y Yosef and Shas leaders.
But some city residents protested that the message of the event stated that the event is for men only.
The mayor announced a result that he would not participate in the event that "nothing like this would be in the city of Ashdod." He added that "the Torah Culture Department will not finance any more such evenings."
Ashdod Municipality also clarifies that the event was done without coordination with the municipality and the use of symbols is done without the knowledge of its people.
Avi Amsellem division head responded to Behadrey Haredim "during the three months were made requests in synagogues throughout the city and today is the eve of graduation and decided to join the celebrations of the Maimona with this large event, so probably that this evening is not suitable for women since discovered the lack of interest , but of course places are prepared for women and all the matter in good faith, which even during the intermediate days were three events for women throughout Ashdod. I call on the public to participate in the joy of holiday both men and women.
