Rabbi of Bnei Brak: abolish the practice of Affikoman

"One should eliminate the habit of stealing the "Affikoman", according to Hgr"s Ben Simon, a member of the Beis Din and Av Beit Din of Bnei Brak.

Hgr"s Ben Shimon states that families eliminate the practice of Affiikoman theft, because it is not educational.

"This practice is not educational at all," he said, "Pesach is designed to instill the belief among the children and educate them. Affikoman theft does the opposite; it is a bad habit and should be abolished."

"This is a practice that was common in Jerusalem," says Hgr"s Ben Shimon, "Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach ztz opposed it."

And Hgr"s offers an alternative: "The children have to be trained that anyone who sits the entire seder and reads the Haggadah beautifully will receive a prize and not give awards to unworthy practices, our prayer on this night is that there will be yiras shamayim in the hearts of children and therefore we need to be careful from this tradition.
