Shas presents: crowning of the next Maran
יעקב כהן

Just six months after the death of Harav Ovadia Yosef, president of the Council of Torah Sages and a new leader rose to Sephardic Judaism: Maran Rosh Yeshivat Porat Yosef, the great Rabbi Shalom Cohen (83), who will be crowned this Pesach as head of the Council of Torah Sages.

Behadrey Haredim learned that the Mishpacha newspaper magazine, which will appear at newsstands this Thursday, a monumental and extensive article will appear, and first of its kind on the image of the new leader of the Sephardim Jews, which will be crowned the first time, as new mayor of Torah Sages .

Title, which includes responsibility for the activities of the movement, both in the political and public sphere, will be given to Rabbi Shalom after the requests were referred to the Council of Torah Sages Rabbi Shimon Baadani, Rabbi Moshe Maya and Rabbi David Yosef. Already this Pesach Shas will hold a gathering to receive the teacher in Bnei Brak and Jerusalem together with members of the Council of Sages headed by Hgr"s Cohen.

Behadrey Haredim also learned that holiday interview given by Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri, to the Globes newspaper; he said the new appointment is a direct continuation of the chain of Sephardic public leadership. Even the home newspaper Yom Leyom crowned the Rosh yeshiva starting this week as Maran Rosh Yeshiva, without mentioning his name, a custom which was up to now only Harav Ovadia Yosef.

Shas's response: "The political echelon in the Shas movement does not deal in these matters. These things are solely to the decision of the members of the Council of Torah Sages."
