Pesach meat consumption is one of the highest during the year, and accordingly meat producers, butchers and supermarket chains increase the rate of production and supply. This situation also leads naturally to fraud and forgery by various greedy factors.
After the report was published in Behadrey Haredim on the capture of eighty tons of non-kosher meat last week, in a container near the industrial area of Lod, today (Tuesday) inspectors from the Chief Rabbinate again caught over ten tons of non-kosher meat, this time in Ashdod in a container which belongs to the butcher Ben Shabbat.
The meat was packed and ready for marketing in a refrigeration container in the port of Ashdod, from where it was apparently supposed to make its way into the meat shops. The raid came following information brought to the Enforcement Division of the Rabbinate, and it undermined the marketing and saved thousands of people from eating non-kosher meat.
So far the butcher enjoyed a kosher certificate. But following the affair the certificate was removed from the place. Rabbi Rafi Yochai, Director of Enforcement, said that those who have recently purchased at the butcher shop, must make a sha'ala how to kasher the dishes, since one cannot know how long the supply of non-kosher meat in the butcher shop has been going on.
The meat seized has been sent for destruction by the Chief Rabbinate inspectors.
At this time the owner of the butchery is under police investigation. His response will be announced when it will reach the editorial.
And not only meat:
In initiated activity, which commenced by gathering intelligence and observation and its conclusion was a capture, tonight supervisors of central unit for enforcement and investigations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in cooperation with police and military forces reached the exposure of a sorting and signature institution of pirated eggs in Hebron.
The institute forged signatures on eggs by using the name of a recognized sorting institute in the country, which has no relation to the affair, and with the words "Kosher for Pesach" in order to market them easily in Israel. During the capture about 35,000 eggs were packed, sealed and ready for marketing in Israel.
The sorting institute was exposed in light of intelligence obtained by the central unit of enforcement and investigations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. A new sorting and stamping machine for eggs was found. The achine was confiscated and the marketing of eggs was banned. Unit supervisors in cooperation with army and police carried out a search in the home of the owner of the Institute, where evidence was found indicating the intention to market the eggs to points in Israel. Two suspects, residents of the area in their 30's, were detained for questioning, at the end of which legal proceedings against the detainees were started.Photo: Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
