A moving Bris was held this morning for the son of a real estate developer R' Shlomo Gelber z"l from Beit Shemesh who died nine months ago after undergoing sudden cardiac arrest.
The Bris which was held in the Shirat Yerushalayim Hall in Jerusalem, was attended by hundreds of friends and family. One of those present told Behadrey Haredim: "No eye remained dry while the name of the child was read out at the saying of blessings "Kayem es hayeled haze le'aviv uleimo, veyikare shmo be'yisrael - Yehudah Shlomo' (the name of his father, R; Shlomo z"l – M.W.) people could not stop their tears and excitement."
R' Shlomo's father was the Sandak who also said the blessing "lehachniso bivriso shel Avraham Avinu" and Shehecheyanu, and father of the mother was mechubad with the brochos.
The actual birth was a closure. This was reported this morning by Yedioth Ahronoth. MDA paramedic David Cohen who took the birthing woman to hospital had trouble holding back his excitement. This time it was not a routine response of another baby coming into the world. This time his heartbeat accelerated because the birth performed by him in the ambulance led to an extraordinary connection between happiness and tragedy, between life and death.
David Cohen, who is in charge of the MDA station in Beit shemesh, was the man who took R' Shlomo Gelber z"l in the ambulance then. "As we drove, we had to stop the ambulance. While we performed CPR we were able to regain a pulse, but in the end it did not help and he died at the hospital."
This week it happened: near where he performed CPR on Shlomi, he stopped again, this time to deliver his widow - Shira Gelber. "I stopped, I prepared the birth kit, and within three minutes the head already appeared and she gave birth," recalls the paramedic.Baby Yehuda Shlomo Gelber at the Bris today
