Rage in New York: are police harassing the Orthodox?
Two cases reaching local and national media, indicate the NYPD harassment towards innocent Orthodox

Avraham, a young orthodox in his 30s who lives in Williamsburg, received on Friday a report on a traffic violation allegedly committed. Avraham argued with the policeman, but the policeman insisted he register the report. However, Avrraham decided he is not going to pay the report - but stand up in court and show the traffic judge the video which documented the entire event, which comes from a closed-circuit video installed in his car.
Avraham told the incident to reporter on CBS, and showed him the video. He said the policeman was half a block from the intersection, and could not see what was happening there. However, the officer stopped three vehicles which turned left at the intersection when he accuses Avraham he turned left down the wrong path. As mentioned, though he tried to argue - the policeman insisted to give him a report of 138 dollars, it added three points, and indirectly, may cost him price insurance.
The story of Avraham from Williamsburg is added to thecase of Zvi Licht, a young haredi resident of Flatbush completing the first year of Law. Licht told the New York Times that he decided to sue the police officer who arrested him in December for no reason. He said that in December this year saw the harassment directed by two policemen towards an Orthodox driver who stopped his car at a bus stop for a moment at an ATM to withdraw money.
Police car screeched to a halt beside the car of orthodox and asked him to move, claiming not to shop at a bus stop. The driver explained that he stopped to withdraw money from the ATM, but the police threatened and the driver left the scene. Licht, who witnessed the event, saw the police car was parked where the orthodox driver parked. The policemen got out, went into the restaurant and sat quietly eating and talking. At this point Licht decided to stand up to the police and request an explanation of the scene, but police swore at him and suggested he leave.
Licht insisted on getting an answer, and the police response, handcuffed him, pushed him to the patrol car and took him into custody when they tailor a portfolio of non-compliance and other various articles. After an hour and a half in a holding cell, Licht was investigated; he came clean and was released. He said he fears that the case could block his path in the legal profession and decided through his attorney to file a police report on police conduct and illegal detention perpetrated.
