Iran's Chief Rabbi Yosef Hamedani Cohen, of blessed memory, passed away .
The Rabbi served as rabbi of the community since 1994 and maintained close ties with rabbis in Israel who placed their trust in him.
The funeral will be held today at the Jewish cemetery "Bahashtaya" in the Iranian capital Tehran.
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami visited the synagogue was honored by the Rav with opening of the ark.
Rabbi Hamedani served as chief rabbi of Iran since January 1994 and was known for developing ties with Iran's political leadership, and met several times with the presidents of the Muslim power.
