On orders of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, criteria reduced for Passover provision and distribution of thousands of yeshiva students this year will have to give up the grant.

Ashdod Religious Council announced that unlike previous years, this year will be distributed only to those in need of support recognized by the Welfare Services.

This means that hundreds of yeshiva students waiting for support to bring home the basic holiday products will have to find other sources.

Sources at the religious council approved to Behadrey Haredim that under the new requirement approximately 70-80% of the recipients of subsidies in the city will be removed.

"This provision was recently passed," said the official, "and affects mostly yeshiva students and the immigrant community that are not supported by social services.
"It's absurd especially because families recognized by welfare authorities are usually families who collapsed and situation is problematic and receives regular support on an ongoing basis. Nature of the support of the Passover provision would help the needy who are struggling during the year day by day to survive and finish the month. Before the holidays they require special support in order to survive and succeed in bringing the basic needs home.

Are all the years of distribution funding coming from the office which received special budget?

"It is not money received from the budget of the ministry that comes specifically for this, but money the burial society, sets aside for kimcha depischa. But the all expenses of the burial society are needed to get approval from the department in charge at the Ministry of Religious Services and these, as they gave the order ".

Spokesman for the Ministry of Religious Affairs explained that "representatives of the Ministry in fact sought to establish neat and uniform criteria but have not demanded necessarily criterion or other discriminatory between different populations. I appreciate that there are many families in need, even those who seem not to seem needy. But there must be controls organized and informal and you have officially accepted list more of the municipality. "
