Institute found: eight Jews were murdered in Iran

Institution brought to an end of the affair of Iranian Jews absent since the 90s. 8 out of 11 families of missing Iranian Jews in the 90s receive this evening from the Intelligence Heritage Center notified that their families were murdered on their way to immigrate to Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations, to deepen the investigation on the disappearance of the eleven Iranian Jews who tried to flee Iran in the 90s. Mossad chief Tamir Pardo got the job and the institution brought about a breakthrough intelligence that has enabled the provision towards the end.

Task to closing the ends was given to David Meidan, the adapter issues of prisoners and missing from the Prime Minister, who was the Prime Minister's personal representative in negotiations for the return of Gilad Shalit. Maidan retired from his service in the institution two years ago after 35 years of operational and command positions in Israel and abroad.

Upon retirement, the Prime Minister asked to continue to deal with the prisoners and missing persons and any public interest required it, and now asked to deepen and resolve the affair of Iranian Jews who disappeared.

Some background: In 1994 and in 1997, eleven Iranian Jews, in four separate groups, tried to escape from Iran across the border to neighboring countries. While trying to escape, those Jews disappeared and provision remained unsolved for years without their families who knew what had happened to them.

Intelligence officials received information from a reliable source knowledgeable source that those Jews were caught during the escape and murdered. This is a sensitive and complex investigation which is another achievement in terms of intelligence capabilities of the State of Israel. Task of collecting and study of three other missing (since 1997) continues. Information about progress in the investigation was the chief rabbi and father of the Great Rabbinical Court Shlomo Moshe Amar, who issued his ruling which relies on the reliability of the information regarding the death of eight of the eleven Jews who disappeared. This ruling allows their declaration of the deceased and motivating Agunot permitting process.

Delivery status to the families participated Rabbi Bakshi Doron who prayed and blessed them.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "I send condolences to the families and hope they find comfort in the information received. Continue to do whatever it takes to get all possible information about the disappearance."

David Meidan, the adapter on behalf of missing persons, said in a status message: "This is an issue that occupied the intelligence agencies for over twenty years, and I can say that today the mystery comes to an end."

"First and foremost it was an intelligence achievement we managed to get their hands on a reliable source region which is not simple, given reliable information on the basis of finding out what became of the fate of eight of eleven missing people. We announce today to the families that the circle is closed."
